Section 1

Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways: (1) information you provide, (2) information generated when you use the Service, and (3) information we receive from service providers that help us operate the Service.

Information You Provide

  • Account information: email address, phone number, username, password or authentication credentials, date of birth (for age-gating), and verification codes used for security actions (including account changes or deletion)
  • Profile information: display name, profile photo, and profile color selection
  • User Content: photo posts (images), captions, comments and replies, tags, and related metadata you submit
  • Reports/appeals: information you submit when reporting content or appealing a decision (where available)
  • Support messages: if you contact us

Information We Collect Automatically

  • Device and app information: device type and operating system, app version
  • IP address and approximate location: approximate location inferred from IP (not precise GPS)
  • Logs and diagnostics: crash logs and performance diagnostics, timestamps and basic usage events (for example, sign-in attempts, posting attempts, and moderation outcomes)
  • Device-level abuse prevention: we may generate or store a privacy-respecting identifier tied to the install (or a hashed form of it) and associate it with your account (for example, an “install_id_hash”)

Information From Third Parties

We use vendors (processors) to help operate the Service (for example, authentication, database, storage, email delivery, content safety, and OCR). They may provide limited information necessary to operate the Service (for example, email delivery status or safety signals from moderation tools).

Section 2

How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide the Service (accounts, feed, posts, comments, friends, tagging)
  • Enforce private visibility (limiting post access to accepted friends)
  • Enforce the 13+ age requirement
  • Protect users and the Service (moderation, blocking, reporting, fraud prevention)
  • Maintain security (verification codes, suspicious login detection)
  • Operate and improve performance (crash reports, diagnostics)
  • Communicate with you (account messages, policy updates, support replies)
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect safety
Section 3

Content Moderation and Automated Processing

To keep the Service safe and enforce rules, we may analyze Content using automated tools. This can include scanning images for policy violations, detecting text inside images (OCR) to enforce banned terms, and analyzing captions and comments for prohibited content.

We may store moderation results and enforcement history to prevent repeat abuse and improve safety.

Automated systems can make mistakes. Moderation is used for safety and policy enforcement and is not used to sell your data.

Section 4

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for third-party targeted advertising.

With Other Users (as Part of the Service)

Your account is private by default. Your User Content is generally visible only to accepted friends, subject to your settings and the operation of the Service.

Service Providers

We share information with vendors that help us operate the Service, such as hosting, storage, authentication, email delivery, and content safety providers. They may process information only to provide services to us and must protect it.

Legal and Safety

We may share information if we believe it’s necessary to comply with law or legal process, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the Service, or prevent fraud or abuse.

Business Transfers

If Just Friends is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction (subject to this Policy and applicable law).

Section 5

Who Can See Your Information

Just Friends is designed to be private by default. Your posts are intended to be visible to you and the accepted friends you approve. Your username and profile may be visible to other users in limited contexts (for example, search), depending on your settings and enforcement actions.

We and our service providers may access information as needed to operate and secure the Service and to enforce policies.

Even in a private service, friends can still capture or re-share what they see (for example, via screenshots). We cannot guarantee confidentiality once information is viewed by others.

Section 6

Data Retention

We keep information for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain security and prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

  • Account data is retained while your account is active.
  • When you delete Content, it may remain temporarily in backups or logs for a limited period.
  • We may retain certain records (for example, enforcement history, fraud prevention signals, and legal compliance logs) where necessary.

Even if you delete Content from the Service, other users may retain copies (for example, via screenshots) or it may remain in threads where removal is not technically feasible, subject to our product design.

Section 7

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on features available in the App, you can view and edit profile information, delete posts or comments you created, block other users, report content or accounts, and delete your account (which may require verification).

Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

  • Contact us for privacy requests at privacy@thejustfriends.app
Section 8

Children’s Privacy (Under 13)

Just Friends is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it and disable the account.

Section 9

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Section 10

International Data Transfers

If you use the Service outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

Section 11

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If changes are significant, we will provide notice in the App or by email. The effective date shown in-app will indicate when the update applies.
